If you want to get wood from the forest, you need a permit. But not only that. Without specialist knowledge it becomes dangerous. From sawing permits to protective clothing: Here are the important tips from the forest rangers.
As the old saying goes, firewood warms you up twice. If you get it yourself in the forest, always with permission, you can quickly start to sweat. Especially when things get dangerous due to ignorance, carelessness or carelessness. For this reason, the forestry companies are obliged to check compliance with the relevant accident prevention regulations in the currently valid version.
No chainsaw without proof of expertise
Persons who work with chainsaws must have taken part in a chainsaw course that meets the requirements of the statutory accident insurance institutions, or have the expertise for handling chainsaws as part of vocational training, says the head of the Heilbronn forestry office, Martin Rüter, With.
Experts are also considered to be those who can demonstrate several years of professional activity in timber harvesting. The corresponding proof, which is usually the certificate for the chainsaw basic course, must be carried with you when working in the forest and shown on request.
In this way, a device is also really reliable
Only machines, devices and tools that are in an operationally safe condition are permitted. When using the chainsaw, only organic saw chain oil and the special fuel alkylate petrol may be used.
As the Eppinger district manager Jürgen Stahl adds, suitable protective equipment is mandatory for wood harvesting in the forest. It consists of a helmet with a visor and hearing protection, cut-proof trousers, a weatherproof jacket, safety shoes with steel toecaps and gloves. Common seals of quality are the CE mark and an acorn with the lettering “FPA”.
Always drive slowly in the forest
Driving on the existing areas is prohibited. Forest roads are gentle, at a maximum speed of 30 km/h and only to be crossed by vehicles on weekdays. The use of the forest paths is at your own risk. The driving license relates exclusively to the journeys necessary for processing and transporting the wood. Paths must not be blocked by parking vehicles.
The removal of the wood is to be carried out in a way that protects the stand, the ground and the path. Paths, ditches, embankments, culverts and culverts must be kept clear. Any damage must be repaired by the buyer within a reasonable period of time.
